The Hampton Public Library’s purpose is to provide facilities where members of the community may study, obtain information, read, and attend programs. In order to provide an appropriate environment, the following activities are prohibited:

  • No weapons allowed, except as permitted by law
  • Loud talking, running or jumping
  • Eating, drinking or use of tobacco
  • Loitering or roaming
  • Abusive language or public profanity
  • Blocking or interfering with the free movement of others
  • Damaging library materials, equipment or property
  • Sleeping, lying on furniture or floors, putting feet on furniture or walls
  • Littering
  • Playing radios, tape players, etc. except with earphones at low volume
  • Soliciting, campaigning or petitioning for any purpose
  • Disturbing the peace generally, see Hampton City Code, Chapter 24
