From the Director: Library To Receive Mottard BequestWe were informed in December that the late Mr. Elmo Mottard had made a most generous provision in his will for the Hampton Public Library Foundation. The anticipated bequest of over $300,000 will enable the Foundation to make annual gifts to the library greatly enriching our collections, programs and services. The object of the Foundation is to receive gifts and bequests which will enrich the offerings of our library over and above the normal operations supported by city and state funding. Elmo Mottard was born and raised in Wisconsin and educated at Marquette University in Milwaukee. He moved to Hampton in the early 1940s to support the war effort at NACA. During his tenure at NACA and later NASA, Mr. Mottard specialized in seaplane hull design. He retired in 1973 and soon thereafter began a second career as a Hampton Public Library volunteer. We are profoundly grateful to Elmo Mottard for the gifts of his time, talent, treasure and friendship. Those who would like to remember the Hampton Public Library in their will should contact my office for further information. Douglas Perry |
